In combat, Spider-Man can use a limited supply of web cartridges to attack his enemies, either connecting them to stop them or defeating them, increasing the strength of his attacks or forming an explosive barrier. Spider-Man is able to use his spider powers to traverse environments, being able to crawl on walls and ceilings, balance short distances, and instantly pass between certain points. The player must retry the current level if Spider-Man runs out of health, falls off a building, or fails to complete certain objectives, such as rescuing a hostage. The game has the player controlling Spider-Man as he progresses through each level, either trying to reach the exit or completing a certain objective. This game and its latest sequel are narrated by Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee. In 2001 two direct sequels were released one developed by Torus Games, Spider-Man 2: The Sinister Six, released for the Game Boy Color, and two developed by Vicarious Visions, Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro, released exclusively for PlayStation, and a spin-off Spider-Man: Mysterio’s Menace, released for the Game Boy Advance. The game features Venom, Carnage, Scorpion, Rhino, Mysterio, and a game-exclusive Symbiote Doctor Octopus as story elements and boss battles. The game follows Spider-Man when a doppelgänger incriminates him for stealing a device created by a supposedly reformed Dr.
